NOTEWORTHY: Caleb Miller connected for four 3-point baskets and finished with a game-high 26 points Friday night to lead the Stratford Bulldogs to a 67-48 thumping of the Stonewall Longhorns in their season opener. Miller also registered three steals. Payton Wood chipped in 12 points with six steals, three assists and three rebounds, and TJ Reed contributed eight points, including one trey, for Stratford. Clayton Findley paced Stonewall with 20 points, and Spencer Gatewood followed with 11. The Bulldogs raced out to a 16-4 advantage through one quarter and held a 43-20 lead at halftime.

COACH’S QUOTE: “We were proud of how strong our guys came out to start the game. We did a lot of good things in the first half. We just need to finish stronger in the second half. (Stonewall) coach (Wes) Moreland had his team competing until the end. We did some silly things at times but played hard. We have plenty of room to grow, but overall very happy with our performance,” said Stratford head coach Ray Ardery.

NOTEWORTHY: Jaedyn Getman tossed in 17 points as the Stratford Lady Bulldogs successfully launched the 2019-20 season with a 51-25 victory over the Stonewall Lady Longhorns Friday night. Stratford jumped out to a 15-0 lead after one quarter and outscored Stonewall, 16-3, in the second quarter for a 31-3 halftime cushion. Angel Wood was next on the Stratford scoring chart with six points, and Kourtney Williams tacked on five. Kaylee Ford led Stonewall with 12 points, and teammate Tatum Brady supplied seven.

Calera jumped out to an 11-4 lead through one quarter and held a 24-16 halftime advantage.
