NOTEWORTHY: Randis Gray pitched a one-hitter through six innings to help Latta (No. 18 in Class A) push past Varnum 5-1 during a Monday road trip. Chance Perry and Rylan Reed each went 2-for-4 from the plate. Gray struck out three and walked three. The lone Varnum run was unearned. Perry doubled once, drove in a run scored once and also closed the game out on the mound in the seventh inning. Reed also scored a run. Gray (1-for-2), Jeron Johnston (1-for-3) and Braden Schroeder (1-for-3) each knocked in one run in Latta’s eight-hit attack. Kal Mack recorded the only Varnum hit, a leadoff single in the bottom of the sixth. Pablo Prieto pitched the final four innings for the Whippets (No. 8 in Class B). He struck out six, walked one and allowed just one earned run.

NOTEWORTHY: Chad Whitis went 3-for-3 from the plate, drove home a run, scored once, drew a walk and closed out the game with one scoreless inning to lead No. 3 Roff to a 7-0 win over host and fifth-ranked Kiowa in a battle of two of the top teams in Class B. Brady Benedict, Cooper Simon and Whitis all combined for a shutout. Conner Owens and Benedict contributed in a big way to the Roff offense as well. Owens was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, and Benedict finished 2-for-4 and scored twice. Wil Joplin also scored a pair of runs and walked twice in a 1-for-2 effort. Benedict pitched the first three innings for the victory. He surrendered three hits and no walks while striking out five. Cooper Simon worked the next three frames and gave up three hits and no walks while striking out a pair. Whitis pitched the seventh and allowed just one hit. Carter Logan finished 2-for-3 to pace the Cowboys at the plate. Three Kiowa pitchers combined for 10 walks and just four strikeouts.

NOTEWORTHY: James Beach pitched a two-hitter and drove home three runs in a 1-for-2 effort in the Tupelo Tigers’ 9-2 blitz of Class B No. 12 Coleman on Monday. Beach struck out six, walked three and surrendered just one earned run. Bentley Bills went 2-for-2 from the plate and scored once, while Blaine Ake, Austin Vick and Tye Gould each finished 2-for-4 for the Tigers (No. 9 in Class B). Ake knocked in a pair of runs and scored once. Vick scored twice, and Gould once. Seth Foreman ended up 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a pair of walks, and Ty Bourland was 1-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored in a 12-hit Tupelo offense.

NOTEWORTHY: Red Oak (No. 6 in Class B) pounded out nine hits and limited Roff (No. 16 in Class B) to one Monday in securing a 6-0 shutout of the Lady Tigers. Roff’s only hit came from Madi DiPrima, who was 1-for-2 from the plate. Maggie Sawyers took the pitching loss, as only two of the six Red Oak runs were earned. Sawyers struck out three and walked three. Shandee Noah led the Lady Eagles at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Delanie Williams and Kayleigh Hunter also doubled in 2-for-4 outings. Kacie Bell earned the mound win for Red Oak. She struck out eight and walked four in seven shutout innings.

NOTEWORTHY: The Roff Lady Tigers took advantage of 13 Maysville errors to roll to an 8-2 win over the Lady Warriors Monday in Game 2 of the Roff Festival. Roff hurler Paige Mayfield didn’t give up an earned run in seven innings of work for the hosts. She struck out seven, walked five and gave up just one hit. Mayfield also recorded the only Roff base hit — an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sidney Wright and Makayla Provence both scored two runs each for the Lady Tigers.

Team Record: Roff 12-8.

NOTEWORTHY: The Tupelo Tigers couldn’t overcome the 15-hit attack from Caney (No. 20 in Class B) and dropped a 9-5 loss to the Lady Cougars. Three Tupelo players – Karyn Maldonado (2-for-3 with a run scored). Cheyane Price (2-for-3) and Breonna D’Aguanno (2-for-4 with a double and one RBI) fueled Tupelo’s 10-hit assault. Kate Sliger doubled and drove in two runs, while Kaylea Palmer and Lindsey Meek each finished 1-for-3 and knocked in one run. Palmer’s hit went for a triple. Alexa Brown went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Caney, while Krista Harkey finished 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored. Kalie Riley also slapped a triple and a double and went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. The Lady Tigers have lost eight of their past nine games.

NOTEWORTHY: Blakelyn Barber fired a three-hitter, and the Sulphur Lady Bulldogs bounced Byng 8-1 in Game 1 of a Monday doubleheader. Makella Mobly, Harley Beesley, Macenzie Ruth, Meredith Jones and Ally Dixon all collected two hits apiece in a 13-hit SHS barrage. Barber struck out four and allowed five walks. Mobly and Beesley were each 2-for-2. Mobly hit a triple and scored three times. Ruth and Jones each finished 2-for-4. Ruth drove in a run and scored once, and Jones also scored a run. Dixon ended up 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Britney Brooks-Teel (1-for-1), Molly Rainey (1-for-3) and Krosby Clinton had the only Lady Pirate hits. Rainey took the pitching loss after getting relief help from Addison McGill.

NOTEWORTHY: Harley Beesley tossed a five-inning, two-hit shutout while Macenzie Ruth and Makella Mobly had three hits each as the Sulphur Lady Bulldogs slammed the Byng Lady Pirates 16-0. Beesley struck out five and walked only three in earning the pitching victory. Ruth went 3-for-4 with one RBI and three runs scored. Mobly scored three times as well. Abby Beck (2-for-2 with four RBIs and three runs scored), Beesley (2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored), Kinlee Duck (2-for-3 with one RBI and three runs scored), Kady Lynch (2-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored) and Ally Dixon (2-for-5 with a double and five RBIs) made major contributions to the Sulphur offense, which produced 18 hits. Sydnee Fortner and Addison McGill each finished 1-for-2 and had the only Lady Pirate hits.
