The East Central University women’s golf team is tied for 18th place after one round of the Doc Housewright Invitational on Monday at the par-72 Harbor Lakes Golf Club.
Host Tarleton State leads the event with a team score of 306, followed by St. Edward’s (311), Grand Canyon (312), California, Pa. (316), Northeastern State (319), Academy of Art University (325), Central Oklahoma (329), Newman (330), Cal State-Monterrey Bay (330), Western Washington (334), Nebraska-Omaha (334) and Angelo State (334).
Midwestern State is in 13th place at 339, followed by St. Martin’s (340), Cameron (342), Chico State (343), Hawaii-Hilo (345), West Texas A&M (348), ECU (348), Southwestern Oklahoma State (362) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (385).
ECU’s best score Monday came from Carol Blanton, who shot an 81 (43 on front nine and 38 on back). Teammate Ilissa Jaggers is tied for 64th place with an 86 (41-45) and Emily Wharton is tied for 76th with an 88 (44-44). Molly Saunders is tied for 93rd with a 93 (46-47) and Whitney McDaniel was tied for 103rd with a 97. Amanda Buell, also of ECU but playing unattached is 107t with a 101 (50-51).
Tarleton State’s Carla Cooper holds the first-round lead by one stroke after firing a 2-over 74 (37-37).
Grand Canyon’s Jacqueline Sneddon (40-35) and Ryanne Haddow (36-39), of St. Edward’s. are one shot back at 75.
There are 110 golfers in the tournament. The second and final round is scheduled for Tuesday.
