Cougars split pair in Okemah

Ada junior Manny LaValley got the pitching win and and also finished 2-for-3 with a double in the Cougars’ 12-0 win over Wewoka Thursday at the Pioneer Day Tournament in Okemah.

OKEMAH – Manny LaValley fired a three-inning, no-hitter, and Bo Charboneau went 2-for-3 from the plate with a double, one RBI and two runs scored Thursday as the Ada Cougars clobbered Wewoka 12-0 in the Pioneer Day Tournament.

In the tournament opener, Victory Christian knocked off Ada 9-4.

Game 1

Ada 12, Wewoka 0

LaValley struck out five batters and allowed no walks in earning the pitching victory and helped his own cause by going 1-for-3 from the plate with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.

Ada (15-14), totaled nine hits. Zac Carroll also drove in two runs and scored once in a 1-for-3 effort. Kaden Cooper also knocked in a run, while going 1-for-2 with a run scored and a walk.

The Cougars jumped out to a 4-0 advantage in the first inning. After Charboneau led off with a single to left, he scored off Carroll’s double to left and Carroll ended up at third on the same play.

LaValley’s RBI groundout scored Carroll for a 2-0 Ada lead.

Cooper then drew a walk and later stole second. Braden Maloy’s single to right field scored Cooper to make it 3-0. Then a dropped fly off a ball hit by John David Muse put Ada up 4-0.

The Cougars then put together a three-run second inning. Ryan Hagar’s double to right field triggered the uprising. Hagar then stole third base. Charboneau then doubled to right field as Hagar scored. Charboneau ultimately scored off an error, which led to a 6-0 cushion.

Cade Sliger singled to left field and later scored off an error to make it 7-0.

A five-run third featured a Charboneau sacrifice fly, a Carroll RBI groundout, LaValley’s run-scoring double to left field and a Cooper RBI infield single to third.

Ada was helped by three Wewoka errors.

Game 2

Victory Christian 9, Ada 4

Victory Christian (11-2), behind 12 total base hits, overcame a 3-0 deficit to defeat the Cougars in the tournament opener.

Ada was limited to five hits, as Zac Carroll drove in two of the four runs while going 1-for-3 with a walk.

The Cougars’ other four hits came from Bo Charboneau (1-for-2 with two runs scored), Cade Sliger (1-for-2 with a double and a walk), Kaden Cooper (1-for-3 with a run scored and a walk) and Jaycob Gray.

Colby Siglin homered for Victory Christian, and Jordan Droze was 4-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Jonny Howard pitched the last four innings for the win in relief of starter Camden Gipson.

Starter Tovan Thomsen took the loss for Ada. He was relieved by Christopher Carrethers.
