SILO – Brock Williams tossed a two-hitter, struck out seven and allowed no walks Thursday as the Coalgate Wildcats eliminated the Stratford Bulldogs, 9-1, in five innings of a Class 2A regional baseball game on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, Coalgate was on the short end of a 7-4 decision to Crossings Christian to open regional play.
The Wildcats compiled nine hits as Austin Lambert and Casey Stowe led the way.
Austin Lambert finished 2-for-3 from the plate with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored, while Stowe ended up 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three RBIs and a run scored. Williams also drove home a run while going 1-for-2.
Coalgate, trailing 1-0 through three innings, blew the game open with a seven-run fourth inning and added two more scores in the fifth.
Crossings Christian 7, Coalgate 4
The Wildcats were held to five hits as Tyler Lambert had two of those in a 2-for-3 effort with two walks. Teammate Hadyn Vick was 1-for-2 with a double, one RBI and a walk.
Crossings Christian totaled eight hits as Stowe, the starting pitcher, was tagged with the loss. Stowe struck out four and walked just one, as only three of the runs he allowed were earned.
