DUNCAN—Seniors Eddie Brown and Justin Todd both claimed gold medals in their weight classes to lead the Ada High wrestling team to a sixth-place finish in a strong field of 16 teams at the Duncan SOI Tournament Friday and Saturday.
Brown, who finished fourth at the Class 5A state tournament last spring, followed his runner-up finish at the season-opening Bristow Tournament (where the Cougars also finished sixth) with a victory at 140 pounds at Duncan. Todd, another state qualifier for Kyle Bohannon’s squad last season and, like Brown, a member of the AHS football team, claimed his first victory of the season at 160 pounds.
Jamie Copeland, who earned Ada’s only gold medal at Bristow, finished second at 103 pounds at Duncan, and fellow sophomore Jake Todd—3rd at Bristow—was second at 119.
Heavyweight Josh Nail followed his fourth-place finish in the season opener with a third-place showing last week. The Cougars also got fifth-place finishes from Hunter Bedsole (at 125 pounds), Jeb Todd (130) and Derrick Brown (152) and a sixth from Dean Doolen at 215.
The Cougars will take a three-week break for the holidays and return Jan. 8-9 at the McAlester Tournament before traveling to Duncan for a dual on Monday, Jan. 12. Ada’s next home date is Jan. 14, when the Cougars host Sulphur.
