With fanfare fit for a capital ship, Ada Early Childhood Center christened the newest addition to its playground literacy park — an airplane.

With a grant from the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission and American Airlines, students at Ada Early Childhood Center had the opportunity Thursday to unveil and christen the new plane for “AECC Airlines.” The two-seat playground piece features an “A is for Airplane” sign next to it.

The event was part of Ada City School’s new STEM programming, with the district offering age-appropriate aviation activities and courses at each school site.

AECC Principal Cindy Brady and student Nolan Booth christened the plane with bottled water standing in for the traditional champagne.

The christening event also included a performance by the Ada High School band.
