Relay for Life of Pontotoc County has raised about $44,000 for cancer research so far this year and organizers are hoping to generate an additional $106,000 for the cause.
Susan Flesner, community manager of development for the American Cancer Society, said she was optimistic the annual fundraiser would meet the $150,000 goal. She added this year’s Relay for Life will feature an auction, food and entertainment as well as the traditional activities.
“It’s a big family event, and so we would invite the whole community to come out for it and bring any loved ones who are cancer survivors,” the Oklahoma City woman said Friday.
Relay for Life is the main fundraiser for the American Cancer Society which uses the proceeds to boost cancer research and help people struggling with the disease. The event also pays tribute to cancer victims and honors survivors.
