The University of Oklahoma has promoted the interim president of OU-Tulsa to president.

Dr. Gerry Clancy, who also is dean of the College of Medicine in Tulsa, received the permanent appointment on Wednesday.

Clancy succeeds Ken Levit, who resigned three months ago to become executive director of the George Kaiser Family Foundation. Clancy also co-chaired the campus’ strategic planning last year.

Officials said in May that Clancy likely would be named president.

“What I hear from students, what I hear from faculty, what I hear from leadership across the board — he’s done a spectacular job,” OU President David Boren said at Wednesday’s regents meeting.
