Donald Cole Gallup is running for Oklahoma House of Representatives District 25. Gallup, known as Cole Gallup, is a local resident. He was born in Pauls Valley and raised in the country near Vanoss on the Pontotoc County Line. Gallup attended Stratford High School, raised on a ranch where he spent his free time clearing timber, working cattle and picking Stratford peaches in the summer.
After September 11, 2001, he felt the need to serve his country. While in the U.S. Navy he served in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Operation Southern Watch (OSW), and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) as an aviation mechanic on F-14 Tomcats in VF-31, the last Tomcat squadron in history.
During this time he received more than 14 medals, awards and other commendations including the Navy Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and three Sea Service Ribbons for his duties as a Final Checker/Trouble Shooter. After the Navy, he returned home for a slower paced lifestyle, during this time he utilized his military experience and completed a four-year bachelor’s degree in a year in a half, then a master’s in the following two years. He is now pursuing a doctorate degree.
While Gallup has always held conservative views as a result of his rural upbringing and Christian faith, he rarely considered the path of politics until he married and had a son. After becoming a husband and father, he became very concerned about the quality of life within Oklahoma. His concern for the world that his generation would leave his son and all future generations inspired him to become involved in politics. His desire is to leave behind a state and country that is better off then when he came into it; a place where people are free to pursue their future and are allowed to flourish as a result of their labor.
Gallup states he is not going up to the capital to make friends, be a rubber stamp for the establishment, or try to win some proverbial popularity contests; he is going up there to be a thorn in the side of big spending and corruption.
Currently Gallup is a homeowner outside the Ada area residing with his wife and son. He serves on the Vestry Board for St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, and occasionally serves as the Lay Reader. Gallup is also the Sr. Warden (Vice President) of Ada Lodge No. 119, and a member of the American Legion.
