A Coal County woman was killed in her Cottonwood home Sunday afternoon allegedly by her former boyfriend, who reportedly turned himself in shortly after.

Connie McNeil, Cottonwood, was found dead in her home Sunday afternoon at approximately 4 p.m. after Lyle Quinton Brown, 51, turned himself in to the Coal County authorities.

According to Coal County Sheriff Roy Deck, large amounts of blood were found throughout the kitchen, with a trail leading into the living room and bedroom. Deck found McNeil's body lying face up with splatters of blood on and around it. During the investigation of the crime scene, it was determined that the assailant entered the residence by knocking out a bathroom window. A .22-caliber pistol was also found on a coffee table in the living room, which is believed to be the weapon used in the crime. Sheriff Deck also determined the victim was shot at least one time.

Brown is currently being held at the Coal County jail without bond. He has entered a plea of not guilty with a court date set for June 22.
