The Allen High School cheerleaders earned their first-ever shot at a state title Saturday.

The cheerleaders captured a state berth after competing Saturday in the OSSAA regional cheerleading competition for the first time in school history. They performed at noon at Chickasha High School in the Class 2A division and earned the points necessary to advance to the state tournament.

The cheerleaders’ dedication was the key to their success at regionals, coach Allie Gastineau said Monday.

“They’ve done everything I’ve asked of them,” she said. “They didn’t back down from any challenges.”

The state tournament will be held this coming Saturday at Gallagher Iba Arena on the campus of Oklahoma State University. Class 2A cheer squads, including Allen, will compete at 11 a.m.

Meanwhile, the McLish Middle School cheerleaders of Stonewall Public Schools had the honor of performing at half-time of the Oklahoma vs University of Louisiana-Monroe on Sept. 10.
