Norvin and Thelma Toney celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, June 30, 2015.
James Norvin Toney and Thelma Irene Scroggins were married on June 30, 1940, in Arpelar.
Norvin and Thelma met in Francis, where they both lived prior to their marriage. The first few years of marriage, during World War II, Norvin was in the Coast Guard. During this time they lived in several different places including Sabine, Texas, and Washington, D.C. In November 1945, they moved to their current home in the rural community of Pleasant Hill just outside Stonewall. Prior to retiring, Norvin worked as a building contractor and raised cattle. Thelma was a stay-at-home wife and mother, caring for their two children: son, Jerry, and daughter, Pat. Norvin and Thelma have four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
