IRONTON, Ohio – Police in this Ohio River town report a 2-year-old boy died from an apparent drug overdose and that they have arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with the case.
Emergency medical technicians found the toddler in cardiac arrest on Jan. 27 in his mother’s apartment, transporting him to King’s Daughters Medical Center in nearby Ashland, Kentucky, where he died.
An autopsy determined the boy had sufficient amounts of heroin, fentanyl and an unknown substance in his blood to cause the child’s death, Police Chief Pamela Wagner said
David Large, 36, of Ironton, Ohio, the boy’s caretaker, was arrested Thursday on a charge of child endangerment. The police chief said additional charges against Large and others could be filed later.
The child’s mother was at work at the time, said Wagner. Police did not immediately identify her or the child.
Ironton is located along the Ohio River in southern Ohio, 100 miles southeast of Cincinnati.
