Authorities are investigating after a body was found in a field Sunday in the Lovelady area.

A property owner on County Road 1560 discovered the body and called 911. The man told Pontotoc County sheriff’s deputies he believed the body was that of a man who was working for someone doing remodeling work on the property.

According to a report by Deputy Eric Holcomb, the remodeler told deputies he and his worker had been working on the property Thursday when the remodeler went to bid on another project. His employee was gone when he returned a few hours later.

“He said that a window had been busted and that his drill that mixed paint was outside of the residence,” Holcomb said. “(The remodeler) said that he had assumed (his employee) had broken the window by mistake, then got upset and left, thinking he would be fired.”

The remodeler told deputies his worker had recently had some relationship trouble and also struggled with drugs in the past.

“The medical examiner was called to the scene and was unable to detect any signs of foul play during the initial check of the body,” Holcomb said. “He stated the body would have to be considered a John Doe until properly identified.”

Sheriff John Christian said the body was taken to the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s Office for proper identification and to determine cause of death.
