Ada wins pair of pool games Thursday

Ardmore —    The Ada Cougars pounded out 26 hits on the day and rolled to a pair of baseball victories, 19-0 over Wynnewood in 3 ½ innings and 13-6 over Duncan in 5 ½  innings, on Thursday in the Ardmore/Lone Grove Showcase.

   Ada compiled 15 hits behind the 4-for-4 effort from Scott Johnson and the one-hit pitching of Jordan Carter against the Savages.

   Walker Whitworth homered while Jake Boone, Dalton Wolf and Johnson had two hits apiece in the Cougars’ victory over the Demons.

Game 1

Ada 19, Wynnewood 0

   The Cougars scored 13 first-inning runs as they sent 19 batters to the plate. Ada then scored six more times in the second.

   Carter allowed just two walks and struck out three in pitching four complete innings.

   Johnson finished with four runs batted in, doubled once and scored a pair of runs.

   Four other Cougars also had multiple hits as Dalton Wolf went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Gabe Simons was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored, and Micah Simmer went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three scored runs. Whitworth was 2-for-3 and scored three times.

   Jake Boone was only 1-for-1 but managed to finish with four RBIs as he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, walked with the bases juiced and hit a two-run single.

   Ada was helped by three Savage errors.

Game 2

Ada 13, Duncan 6

  Boone, Wolf and Johnson totaled two hits each as the Cougars overcame a 6-5 deficit with an eight-run fifth inning.

   Boone went 2-for-3 with a double, four runs batted in and two runs scored. Wolf was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored, and Johnson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

   Whitworth was 1-for-3 with his homer, four RBIs and two runs scored.

   Each team finished with 11 hits.

   Simmer worked five innings for the win as all six runs he surrendered were earned off 10 hits, but he struck out four and walked only one.   Johnson came on in relief in the sixth and gave up just one walk and one hit.
