Tyler Degraw and Chase Lott each recorded a goal as the Ada High School boys soccer team topped McLoud, 2-1, Saturday in the Rose Rock Tournament.
Later in the day, Ada dropped a 2-0 decision to Class 5A No. 9 Shawnee as the Cougars fell to 2-2 on the season.
“It was a hard-fought game and a good win for the Cougars against McLoud,” said Ada head coach Tom Morrison.
The Cougars outshot McLoud, 12-1.
“Overall, it was a good Rose Rock showing. I feel the team is growing and continuing to improve every day,” Morrison said.
The Ada girls (1-2) team dropped a 3-1 decision to Class 5A No. 7 Durant and were shut out by Class 5A No. 12 Noble 7-0.
Ada is scheduled to host McLoud at 7:30 p.m. today, following the 5:30 p.m. girls match.
Ada girls edge Crooked Oak
NOBLE – Junior Taylor Hodges scored directly off a corner kick in the second half as the Ada High School girls soccer team blanked Crooked Oak, 1-0, Thursday in the Rose Rock Tournament, hosted by Noble High School.
Hodges’ bending shot came with about 20 minutes to go in the contest as the Lady Cougars successfully opened the 2014 season.
Ada senior goalkeeper Brooklyn Cupps recorded the shutout and was credited with one save.
“Amaris Smitherman played well out on top. It was a real good close game,” said Ada head coach Cole Jones.
Crooked Oak 4, Ada 0
The Cougars fell victim to three goals in the final nine minutes, dropping their first match of the season and falling to 1-1 on the young season in the Rose Rock Tournament.
“Tyler Degraw played really well out front. Todd Penick anchored the back and played really well as a defender,” said Ada head coach Tom Morrison. “Kobe Bellard played well as goalkeeper.”
