Asher romps to regional title

ASHER —    The Class B second-ranked Asher Indians received a home run apiece from Colby Carpenter, Tanner Andrews, Trucker Lee and Hunter Fowler in rolling to an 18-4 rout of Stuart in 4 ½ innings to capture a regional championship on Friday.

   Asher, 21-7, advances to next Thursday’s Class B state tournament at Edmond Memorial High School.

   Friday, May 2


   Asher 18, Stuart 4

   Carpenter, who went 2-for-3 from the plate, and Lee, who was 1-for-3, each hit three-run homers while Andrews and Fowler, who each were 1-for-1, had two-run blasts.

   Also contributing big to the Indians’ nine-hit attack were Sean Fleming, who was 2-for-2 with one RBI, and Phillip Leon, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three runs batted in.

   Junior right-hander Caleb Dubler (7-3) pitched the first three innings for the victory as he allowed two runs off three hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Fleming threw the final two frames.

   Thursday, May 1

   Game 1

   Asher 12, Caney 1

   Fleming hit a two-run homer while Lee, Andrews and Tim Johnson each went 2-for-3 in the Indians’ win in 4 ½ innings.

   Lee drove home four runs, Johnson knocked in one and Andrews doubled once as Asher compiled 11 hits.

   Dubler allowed no runs off one hit with one walk and three strikeouts through the first three innings. Fleming pitched the last two innings.

   Game 2

   Asher 17, Stuart 1

   Andrews, a senior right-hander, worked all five innings, allowing only one earned run off three hits with no walks and 12 strikeouts in improving his record to 11-2.

   Lee went 3-for-4 from the plate with three RBIs. Johnson was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs and Carpenter went 1-for-3 with a two-run single as Asher managed just six hits, but took advantage of seven Stuart errors.

   The Indians will play a tune-up game for the state tournament on Monday at Colbert.
