Oklahoma City —
Supporters of a proposal to classify the Arbuckle-Simpson Aquifer as a special source of groundwater say the designation would help protect the aquifer from pollution.
But skeptics worry the designation would open the door for the state to write new regulations governing the aquifer.
The Oklahoma Water Resources Board hosted an informal meeting Thursday in Oklahoma City to gather more information about a request to classify the aquifer as Class 1 Special Source Groundwater. The meeting was not part of the agency’s official rule-making process, which will take several months.
