MLK Day events, observance

Ada — East Central University will honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s memory with several activities next week.

The college is collaborating with Ada on a citywide cleanup project, which will take place at 1 p.m. Monday. People who are interested in participating should meet at ECU’s Centennial Plaza before 1 p.m. The city is providing trash bags and a dumpster.

Lisa Jacobs, president of ECU’s Brothers and Sisters United, will make a brief speech before the project begins.

Then on Tuesday, a march is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Centennial Plaza. A program featuring a performance of King’s “I Have a Dream Speech”, awards and music from blues singer Ray Davis will follow at about 11:30 a.m.

The events are free and open to the public.

City observes Martin Luther King Jr. Day

All non-emergency offices at the city of Ada will be closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

All city offices will reopen for regular hours on Tuesday. Ada City Council will meet at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.

WCA will collect garbage Monday as scheduled.
