Teen remains hospitalized

Ada — A teen who was hit by a train Jan. 12 remains hospitalized, according to family members. The 16-year-old male was walking down the tracks when he was struck, police said. The incident occurred between Mississippi Avenue and Francis Street.

According to radio traffic, the teen suffered a broken leg, numerous abrasions and was complaining of chest pain. Ada police spoke with the teen's family Saturday who said he is recovering from numerous upper body fractures to his ribs and shoulders.

The eastbound train's operator said they activated the train's horn constantly, but the teen -- also walking east -- did not move. The brakes were applied and the operator said the train was traveling about 10-miles-per-hour when it hit the teen. The boy was knocked down and the train rolled over him.

He crawled out from under the train on his own, the train operator said. The teen reportedly told police he had his headphones in and did not hear the train. Police are not releasing the boy's name because he is a minor.
