An Ada man was arrested after he allegedly fought with a store clerk just after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Arrested was 43-year-old Raymond Gene Townsend of Ada, according to a report by Ada police officer Michael O’Connor.
“I was dispatched to D&W Quickstop (in the 900 block of West Main Street) in reference to an employee, Thomas Scroggins, fighting with Raymond Townsend,” O’Connor wrote. “Upon arrival, I saw Scroggins holding Townsend against the outside wall near the front entrance to the store. I noticed Scroggins was bleeding from a cut to the back of his left hand.”
Scroggins told O’Connor he caught Townsend stealing items from the store and had video camera footage of the alleged crime. He said he also had footage from the previous day of Townsend shoplifting.
“Scroggins said he tried to detain Townsend inside the store but Townsend ran for the door and Scroggins said he grabbed him and the two started to scuffle,” O’Connor wrote. “Scroggins said he must have scratched his hand on the wall of the business.”
Townsend told O’Connor he forgot to pay for the item. He was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting and assault and battery.
