Winners crowned in Ada Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot

Ada —    The Ada Elks Lodge hosted its annual Hoop Shoot Saturday at the Ada Middle School gym.

   The competition finds who can make the most free throws out of 25 tries and is for boys and girls ages 8-13. The contest is divided into three age groups.

    In the 8- and 9-year-old girls group, Nikki Warrior of Konawa placed first by hitting 9-of-25. Payton Owens of Roff made seven to take second place. In the boys bracket, Tison Franklin of Coalgate and Ryan Hamilton of Homer tied for first place with 15 makes apiece. In the tiebreaker, Franklin won the gold.

   In the 10 and 11 age group girls contest, Tatum Havens of Washington and Kara Keith of Willard each finished making 10-of-25 shots. Havens won the tiebreaker, making 3-of-5 shots compared to 2-of-5 for Keith. In the boys contest, Britton Kilby of Willard was first with a score of 21. Landon Estes of Latta was a close second, posting a score of 20.

   The final contest of the day was the 12-13 age group. Regan Conger of Willard won the girls contest outright, making 14. Kortni McNutt of Ada Middle School and     Alyssa Sanchez of Roff tied for second place with 12 makes each. McNutt finally prevailed in the tiebreaker for the silver trophy. The boys contest required three tiebreakers before finally deciding a champion. Austin Lambert of Coalgate and Trey Havens of Willard were knotted at 17 after 25 shots. Lambert finally prevailed to win the gold. Other schools participating but not placing were Allen, Byng, Stonewall and Stratford. These champions will continue their quest toward the National Finals in May, with the district contest to be held in Ada on Jan. 4.
