Ada tennis team finishes fifth in own event

Ada —    The Ada High School girls tennis squad finished in a tie for fifth place out of 15 teams in their own tournament on Friday.

   Jenks captured the team title with a score of 61, followed by Duncan at 51, Edmond North at 46 and Heritage Hall at 41. Ada and Enid each scored a 40 for the fifth-place tie.

   The Lady Cougars’ best finish came at No. 2 doubles, as Meneé Thomsen and Mikala Whelchel settled for fourth place after falling to the Jenks team of Stallings and Williams, who won by a 6-4, 7-5 score.

   Ada’s Haley Dean, at No. 2 singles, won her final match for fifth place with an injury default over Duncan’s Marisa Moore.

   At No. 1 doubles, the Lady Cougar combination of Natalie Keel and Karsen Sheffield earned a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Tulsa Union’s Grounds and Wilburn, 6-4, 6-3 for seventh place.

   Ada’s Taylor Wood settled for eighth place at No. 1 singles after dropping a 6-4, 6-1 decision to Durant’s Vanessa Thomas.

   The Lady Cougars’ next action will be Monday, April 14, in the Guthrie Tournament at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
