The memory of a sick child prompted Cindy Stevens to sign up for the American Cancer Society’s latest study.
The Ada woman used to be a food tech for the pediatric unit at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., and she brought food to the patients in the evening. One of the patients was a little girl who visited the hospital regularly for chemotherapy.
“The night that I came in, I was looking forward to seeing her again,” Stevens said as tears welled up in her eyes. “She didn’t make it, and there she lay. They put her in a body bag. It was just really sad.”
