Elks Hoop Shoot crowns SE District champions

Ada —    The Ada Elks Lodge hosted the Southeast District Finals of the Elks National Hoop Shoot contest last Saturday at the Ada Junior High east gymnasium.

   In the 8- and 9-year-old girls contest, Braelyn Blasengame of McAlester and Lexi McDonald of Durant were tied for first place after the 25-shot first round with 13 makes each. McDonald emerged the winner in a shoot-off.  Tison Franklin of Ada won the boys contest after making 19 baskets. Dayton Forsythe of Shawnee placed second with a score of 16.  

   In the girls competition for 10- and 11-year-olds, Elaine Witt of Shawnee placed first by sinking 16 shots. Kendra Ingram of Durant was close behind at 15 to secure second place.

   In the boys contest, Joshua Cody of Shawnee and Bodie Smith of Durant were knotted for second at 18 baskets each. Smith survived the shoot-off to earn second place. Britton Kilby of Ada won first place outright by hitting 20-of-25 shots.  

   The final age group of the day was the 12- and 13-year-old shooters. In the girls contest, Cecily Crawford of McAlester placed first with an impressive 22-of-25 showing. MiKayla Rutland of Shawnee came in second with a respectable score of 19. Tanner Davis of Durant finished with 22 makes to win the boys contest, and Austin Lambert of Ada placed second with a score of 16.

The winners advance to the Hoop Shoot State Finals, to be held Feb. 8 in Sapulpa.
