Quapaw — The American Red Cross has opened a resource center to aid residents affected by a tornado that tore through the town of Quapaw.

The Quapaw Tribe is hosting the multi-agency center in its offices. An emergency shelter opened by the Red Cross hours after Sunday's tornado hit was set up in the tribe's wellness center.

Agencies such as The Salvation Army, United Methodist Committee on Relief and Catholic Charities were on hand to offer aid to storm victims.

Red Cross officials say 430 people spent Tuesday night in 29 Red Cross and community shelters across nine states affected by the tornado outbreak. The agency estimates it has served nearly 9,000 meals and snacks to storm victims.
