Norman — A judge in Cleveland County is considering whether to release a man who was acquitted of murder charges by reason of insanity.

A court hearing is set for June 27 for Gerald David Hume, who was charged in the death and dismemberment of his mother, Janet Hume. In April, Cleveland County District Judge Lori Walkley found Gerald Hume not guilty by reason of insanity.

Hume is now being held at the state-run mental health facility in Vinita.

Prosecutors accused Hume of shooting his mother 11 times before dismembering her body. Officers arrested Hume on Nov. 14, 2012, after an 11-hour standoff in Oklahoma City.

Hume's attorney, Sam Talley, tells The Oklahoman ( ) that his client is mentally ill and wasn't taking his medication at the time of the slaying.
