Volleyball falls to UCO in final regular-season matchup

Ada — The East Central University volleyball team ended the 2013 regular-season with a 0-3 (23-25, 18-25, 14-25) loss to Central Oklahoma in non-conference action.

The Lady Tigers (11-18, 8-6 GAC) were led by senior Sarah Nelson.  Nelson tallied seven kills, five digs and three block assists.

The opening set was a battle with 11 tie scores and five lead changes.  The battle went to 23-all, but two errors by ECU allowed the Bronchos (22-10) to earn the 23-25 win.

The second set started close, until a tie at six.  That is when UCO went on a 9-1 run to take control of the set for good.  The Lady Tigers used a late 4-0 run to try and get back in the set, but fell 18-25.

The third set was again close at the start and resulted in a six-all tie.  The Bronchos again took control of the set, with a 4-0 run and kept the pressure on the ECU the rest of the way to a 14-25 win.

Overall hitting percentages were the key to the match, with the Lady Tigers struggling to find their offensive rhythm.

ECU hit just .070 (25k-19e-86ta) for the match, while UCO hit .308 (48k-16e-104ta).

The Lady Tigers will continue the 2013 season at the 2013 Great American Conference tournament, Nov. 21-23.  ECU will first face arch rival Southeastern Oklahoma State, Thursday, Nov. 21 at noon in Hot Springs, Ark.
