First-year East Central University men’s basketball head coach Ja Havens has filled out the remaining coaching positions for his 2013-14 staff. Havens has added Tomas Brock as his assistant coach and Joel Lincoln as his graduate assistant coach.
Brock will be the lead recruiter for the Tigers and will assist in all aspects of running the program. He will be responsible for scouting opponents, on-the-floor player development and the organization and administration of the program throughout campus.
Lincoln will aid with on-floor coaching and player development, as well as perform administrative tasks. He will also be responsible for the implementation of study hall and academic accountability program in addition to organizing the film exchange program and assisting with game preparation duties.
Brock joins the Tigers after spending the last two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Northwest Missouri State where he was involved with scouting, recruiting and administrative duties. In his two years at Northwest Missouri, Brock helped the Bearcats to two 20-win seasons, a regular-season MIAA championship and a berth in the NCAA national tournament.
“I am thrilled that Tomas has decided to join our staff at East Central,” said Havens. “He embodies the values that are important to our program and will be a great representative of the university.
Tomas embraces hard work and as the product of a coaching family, has a great understanding of the game. He was known as an extremely tough competitor as a player and will bring a winning perspective to our coaching staff.”
Before starting his coaching career, Brock played collegiately at Southwest Baptist. He helped the Bearcats to an MIAA regular-season title and a Sweet 16 appearance, while earning All-MIAA honors as a junior and senior.
Prior to joining Southwest Baptist, Brock was a four-year starter and three-year all-state performer at Mount Vernon High School where he was coached by his father, Skip Brock.
Brock earned a master’s in Health and Physical Education from Northwest Missouri State and a bachelor’s in Finance and Economics from Southwest Baptist University. He is engaged to Abby Moenkhoff.
Lincoln joins the ECU staff after spending four seasons as the Northwest Missouri State men’s basketball manager. While with the Bearcats his duties included setting up practice, clock duties and office work.
“Joel comes to ECU from a winning program and understands what it takes to be successful at this level,” Havens said. “He is an extremely hard worker and has a passion for the game that will benefit each of our players on a daily basis.”
Besides his work with Northwest Missouri, Lincoln has also assisted at many basketball camps, including Snow Valley Basketball School, Billy Donovan’s Gator Camp, Josh Pastner Memphis Tigers Camp, Texas Longhorns Camp, Michael Jordan Flight School and as the Director for Midwest Elite Basketball.
Lincoln earned a bachelor’s degree from Northwest Missouri in physical education and is currently pursuing a master’s in sports administration at ECU.
