Colbert surprises Latta, 15-0

Roff —      During a late Thursday night first-round game, the Colbert Leopards pummeled the Latta Panthers 15-0 in a shocking run rule-shortened game at the 34th Roff Fall Tournament.

In another later first-round game on Thursday,  Asher defeated Byng JV 8-0 to move to the semifinals.

     Colbert 15, Latta 0

James Hair, the winning pitcher for Colbert, gave up only one hit in the contest, a double by Latta freshman Jesse Albert, in the fourth inning of the contest. Latta’s pitching staff allowed nine hits, but also gave up a whopping 12 free passes.

Colbert jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Chris Roberts singled to right, and Hair ripped a two run homer over the left field fence. Preston Whitehead then singled and stole second. Kason Krob singled to advance Whitehead to third. On a delayed steal, Latta threw out Krob at second, but Whitehead crossed the plate to score the third run of the inning.

Colbert added 10 runs in the top of the third on two hits and three Latta errors. Latta walked eight batters in the inning. The Leopards tallied two more runs in the fourth to account for the total.

Roberts led a nine-hit Colbert attack, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Peyton Whitehead added two hits and scored three times for the Leopards, while Tanner Lyday drove in two runs.

     Asher 8, Byng JV O

Asher scored single runs in the first and second, added two in the fourth and four more in the fifth for an 8-0 victory over Byng JV.

Tim Johnson got the win on the mound for the Indians, allowing only two hits in the contest.

Sean Fleming doubled in the last two runs for Asher, as he went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Johnson and Corey Holman also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
