NOTEWORTHY: Phylisha Chamberlain (3-1) pitched a three-inning, two-hit shutout as the Lady Tigers blanked New Lima. Chamberlain struck out one and walked only two and went 1-for-2 from the plate. Courtney Hickman and Kristyn Parker were each 1-for-1 as Hickman doubled and scored a run. Brittany Sanders went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

NOTEWORTHY: Plagued by four errors, Tupelo dropped a tough 6-5 decision to Class 3A Okemah. Phylisha Chamberlain (3-2) was the hard-luck losing pitcher as she allowed just three hits and struck out one. But nearly all of the Okemah runs were unearned. Brittany Sanders went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and four runs batted in for the Lady Tigers. Teammate Keara Bourland also knocked in a run and was 1-for-3 from the plate. Courtney Hickman also went 1-for-3 and scored twice and Kristyn Parker and Paige Vick were each 1-for-3 as well.

NOTEWORTHY: Okemah claimed the tournament title by scoring a run in the top of the eighth, utilizing the international tiebreaker rule. Brittany Sanders went 3-for-4 from the plate for the Lady Tigers, and teammate Courtney Hickman was 2-for-4. Phylisha Chamberlain (3-3) took another hard-luck loss, despite surrendering only six hits. She also drove in a run while going 1-for-4 from the plate. Tupelo trailed 2-0 before scoring a single run each in the sixth and seventh innings to force extra play.

COACH’S QUOTE: “Chamberlain was unbelievable. She gave up just 14 hits in the five games in this tournament. Both teams were beaten down and tired at the end of the tournament, but I told the girls that I could not be happier with the way they played during this first week of the season. We have a lot to look forward to,” — Tupelo head coach Jason Trimmer.

NOTEWORTHY: Asher hurler Caleb Dubler fired a five-inning, three-hit shutout as the Indians blanked Roff 9-0 in the semifinals of the Dale Tournament. Dubler struck out seven and allowed just one walk. Offensively, Dubler went 2-for-4 with a double and a run sored, and Tim Johnson was 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored. For the Tigers, Stephens went 2-for-2 from the plate. Asher finished with eight hits in the contest, as it scored six runs in the first and plated three more in the second to force the run-rule situation after five innings. Roff starter C.J. Johnson (0-1) was tagged with the loss.

NOTEWORTHY: Tanner Nelson fired a four-hit shutout as Dale outdueled two Latta pitchers for the 1-0 victory. Nelson gave up just two walks and struck out four. Panther starter Parker Henderson (0-1) was charged with the loss after working the first two innings. Tristan Wood took the mound for Latta in the third and pitched the rest of the way. Henderson recorded four strikeouts and Wood registered three. Latta’s Brady Johnson was the only multiple hitter in the game, going 2-for-3. The Pirates’ lone run came on an RBI groundout in the first inning.

NOTEWORTHY: Kade Hayes allowed just four hits in seven complete innings and struck out four while going 2-for-3 from the plate with one run batted in and a run scored, as Latta edged Roff to win in the third-place game of the Dale Tournament on Saturday. Ty Hoppe also was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Panthers and teammate Brady Johnson went 2-for-4. For the Tigers, Andy Antonio was 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Dalton Reed went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Reed (0-2) suffered the pitching loss, despite surrendering only seven hits. Roff took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first before Latta scored three times in the top of the sixth.

Records: Latta is 4-1. Roff is 1-3.
