Roff Tigers headed to state

DALE —      A big day from the mound and the plate by Dalton Reed lifted the Roff Tigers to a berth in the Class A fall state baseball tournament on Friday.

     Reed fired a seven-inning, three-hit shutout and was 3-for-4 from the plate with a homer and two doubles as Roff ripped Glencoe, 9-0, in the regional runner-up contest.

     Reed allowed just two walks and struck out 10 from the hill and drove home two runs and scored twice in fueling the Tigers’ 12-hit attack.

     Also for Roff, Hunter Larsh and C.J. Johnson each went 2-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored. Zach Lewis and Jacob Jones each contributed a double for the Tigers.

     Roff scored five first-inning runs and tallied a single run each in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings.

     The Tigers dropped to the regional runner-up title game with an 8-3 loss to host Dale on Thursday as the Pirates advanced to state as the regional champion.

Roff managed just four hits as Andy Antonio went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

     Larsh, the starting pitcher, was tagged with the pitching loss after being relieved by Johnson in the fifth inning.

     In the opening game on Thursday, the Tigers pounded Preston by a 15-2 count.

     Roff compiled 14 hits while Mike Anderson allowed just six hits and one walk while striking out seven.

     Andy Antonio, Cruz Villaframco and Johnson each went 3-for-4 from the plate for the Tigers. Antonio and Cruz each drove in two runs and scored twice, and         Johnson doubled once, scored twice and picked up one RBI.

     Reed was 2-for-2 with two doubles, one RBI and three runs scored.

    While a questionable call or two certainly didn’t dictate the outcome of Ada’s 10-7 loss to Seminole on Senior Night Tuesday at Cougar Field, one could make a valid argument that it certainly changed the momentum of the game.
