Ada softballers edge host Ardmore, 3-1

Ardmore —

Ada pitchers Tara Horton and Morganne Freeman combined to allow just one and two hits to keep the Ardmore offense in check and edged the host Lady Tigers 3-1 on the road Tuesday night.

Horton, making her debut in the circle this fall, struck out three in two innings. Freeman also struck out three in her relief stint.

Ada struck quickly in the top of the first when Natalie Keel was hit by a pitch and scored on a Brittney Lee RBI triple. Lee tried to steal home but was unsuccessful.

Elizabeth Redman and Natalie Keel hit back-to-back singles to start the third inning. Redman would later score on an RBI groundout by Lee to boosted the Ada advantage to 2-0.

Ardmore cut its deficit in half on an RBI groundout by Asjia Anderson in the bottom of the third but the Lady Tigers wouldn’t strike again against Freeman.

The Lady Cougars got an insurance run in the top of the fifth when Keel led off with a single, stole second, went to third on a groundout by Stevona Gilbert and scored on a base bit by Alexis Walker.

Ada is scheduled to host Tishomingo Thursday evening at 5 p.m. before Tecumseh visits next Tuesday.
