Cougars crush Ardmore in title game

Ardmore — Oshawv Frazier fired a five-inning no-hitter as the Ada Cougars routed host Ardmore, 11-1, to win the championship of the Ardmore-Lone Grove Showcase on Saturday.

Frazier went the distance, allowing just three walks and striking out seven.

“Oshawv threw a great game, and, we played well behind him. Up and down the lineup we had contributions,” said Ada head coach Elliott Alberson. “It was a good weekend for Ada Cougar baseball.”

Ada compiled nine hits in the contest as three Cougars had multiple hits. Reid Kinder and Jake Boone were each 2-for-3 from the plate, while Micah Simmer was 2-for-4.

Kinder drove home three runs and scored twice. Boone also knocked in a pair of runs, and Simmer picked up three RBIs and scored twice. Dalton Wolf also brought home a run in a 1-for-3 effort.

After Ardmore took a 1-0 advantage in the first, Ada tied it up in the top of the second. The Cougars then broke open the game with a five-run third inning.

Highlights of that five-run third were a run-scoring single by Boone, a two-run single by Kinder and a Garrett Beam sacrifice fly to center for an RBI.

Ada tacked on four more scores in the fourth behind a Simmer RBI single, a Kinder sacrifice fly, a bases-loaded walk to Boone and a bases-loaded hit batsman as Gabe Simons was plucked by a delivery.

The Cougars then added a single run in the fifth when Scott Johnson reached on an error and ultimately scored when Simmer reached base on a fielder’s choice and was credited with the RBI.

Tristan Dolfin went 1-for-2 and scored a run for Ada in the contest, and Walker Whitworth was 1-for-3 and scored once.

Ardmore’s lone run was scored off a passed ball.
