Ada — Senior midfielder Amaris Smitherman tallied two goals as the Ada High School girls’ soccer team rolled to a 4-1 victory over visiting McLoud on Tuesday night.
Sophomore forward Devon Brown and Rumor Lejeune each had a goal for the Lady Cougars. Junior Taylor Hodges assisted on two scores, and senior Isabel Gutierrez assisted on another.
“Taylor Hodges played extremely well, along with Amaris. The entire team gave an outstanding effort and energy,” said Ada head coach Cole Jones. “Brooklyn Cupps and Fisher Fulton split time as goalkeeper, and both played very well.”
McLoud 4, Ada 1
The Ada High School boys soccer team outshot McLoud by five, but the visiting Redskins came away with a 4-1 victory over the Cougars on Tuesday night.
Ada’s only goal came from Tyler Degraw with 13 minutes to go in the contest, after McLoud had built a 2-0 advantage. The Redskins added two late scores.
“Our boys played hard in tough, windy conditions,” said Ada head coach Tom Morrison. “Todd Penick, Hunter Ross, Justin Lathum and Ceder Easterling are doing a great job on the back end, with (Kobe) Bellard and (Marwin) Dickerson sharing time in the net.
“Our midfield is beginning to pick up play, and we should continue to improve going into district play starting the first week of April.”
Both Ada soccer teams are off until a March 24 home date with Noble. Tonight's matches with Durant were canceled so fans could watch the Ada girls basketball team take on Anadarko today at 2 p.m. at the Class 4A State Tournament in Oklahoma City.
