NOTEWORTHY: Playing under the Maxwell scoring format, the Ada High boys golf team used a two-round score of 647 to finish seventh at the Plainview Invitational Tournament on Monday. Private school powerhouse Heritage Hall ran away with the team title after posting a score of 570. Oklahoma Christian School and Pauls Valley tied for second with identical 618 scores. Zac Schafer of OCS won the medalist crown with a 146, edging runner-up Matt Henry of Pauls Valley, who was a stroke back at 147. Casey Mankin led the Ada contingent with a 159, while Tim Simpson followed with a 167.

COACH’S COMMENTS:  “This was a long day of golf, and I thought we did fairly well. We still have several areas that we need to improve before our regional but our team scores are coming down, which is what you hope for. We just need our scores to come down a little more than they have. All of them need to improve around the greens. That looks to me to be the place we can make up the most strokes,” — Ada head coach Robbie Powell.
