Latta basketball squads sweep Vanoss

Vanoss —

“We were a little sluggish in the first half. We had trouble getting started, even though we held them to three points in the first half,” said Latta Head Coach David Tinkler. “We finally got untracked (offensively) in the second half. But it was a real strong defensive effort, without a doubt.”

Also for the Lady Panthers, Shelbey Parnacher tossed in eight points and recorded four steals while Nelaina Baker chipped in seven points and pulled down five boards. Kaitlyn Reeves also totaled four steals to go with her four points (including a trey) and Diamond Hill knocked down a 3-pointer and handed out three assists.

Taylor Smith led the Lady Wolves with three points.

Latta jumped out to a 12-0 advantage after one quarter and led 20-3 at the break. The Lady Panthers outscored Vanoss, 23-1, in the third to take a 43-4 lead into the fourth.

“When you don’t come ready to play against a top 10 team, this is what happens to you,” said Vanoss Head Coach Dillon Snow. “Latta is a great team and will rack up a lot of wins this season. This one is over. We have to move on and get better.”

The next action for Latta will be next Tuesday, Dec. 3, at home against Lone Grove. Vanoss will play in the Pontotoc Conference Tournament at Calvin next week. The Vanoss girls face host Calvin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday while the Vanoss boys battle Allen at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
