Ada misses opportunities against Tishomingo

Jeff Cali Sports Editor

Ada —      The Ada Lady Cougars turned in a decent defensive effort Thursday night when Tishomingo visited the Ada Softball Complex.

But coach Scott Simpson watched as his team stranded 11 base runners, including four at third base in a 3-1 loss to the Lady Indians.

Ada fell to 8-16 on the year ,while Tishomingo moved above .500 at 13-12.

“It was our usual thing. We can’t move base runners and struggle hitting the ball,” Simpson said following the game.

Tishomingo collected nine hits in the game, but the biggest blows came in the bottom of the second inning when Taylor Wilkinson led off with a double and Kalie Thomas followed with a home run to dead center field that gave the Lady Indians a 2-0 lead.

That was all the run support the Tish pitching combo of starter Hannah Brokaw and Jaysa Northcutt would need, as Ada managed just six scattered hits.

“It just came down to they hit the ball well, and we did not hit the ball well at all,” Simpson said.

Ada tweaked its defensive lineup a bit, moving regular starting catcher Kendal Johnson to third base and sending one of its pitchers — Lindi Robinson — behind the plate.

“Kendal Johnson played well at third, and this was only her second game there. And when we get Lindi some more time behind the plate, I think she’ll be OK there,” Simpson said.

Brittney Lee and Alexis Walker worked back-to-back two-out walks for Ada in the bottom of the third and advanced on a passed ball but were stranded.

Ada loaded the bases with two outs in the third after singles by Johnson and Robinson and a walk to Natalie Keel but couldn’t score.

Emilea Niblett reached on a one-out single in the top of the sixth for Tish, went to second on a passed ball, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on the second passed ball of the inning to push the Lady Indian lead to 3-0.

Ada spoiled the shutout in the bottom of the sixth when Kaitlin Redman was safe on a two-out error and later scored on an RBI single by Keel.

Robinson was the only Ada batter with more than one hit, going 2-for-3.

Brokaw, Niblett and Wilkerson all had two hits apiece for Tishomingo.

The Lady Cougars host Tecumseh on Tuesday for Senior Night before wrapping up the regular season Oct. 1 at McLoud.

Ada learned it will travel to local rival Byng for Class 4A District play. Dates and times for that event had not been set as of press time.
