Pirates roll to 4A Regional championship

The Byng High School boys tennis team crowned three regional champions and had the other finish third in claiming a Class 4A regional team championship on Monday at the Earlywine Tennis Center.

Byng finished with 45 points, followed by Mt. St. Mary (38), Kingfisher (29) and Harrah (26).

Caleb Shaw captured a No. 2 singles title in straight sets for the Pirates, while both Byng doubles teams picked up titles. Caleb McGaha and Dylan West picked up the No. 1 singles crown, and Kai Jorgenson and Paul Synder swept through No. 2 doubles play.

Shaw was an easy 6-0, 6-1 winner over Christian Trent of Mt. St. Mary. Shaw went 2-0 in the tournament and improved to 26-7 on the season.

McGaha and West were a perfect 3-0 for the tournament and improved to 25-10 for the season by rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 decision over the No. 1 doubles team from Harrah.

Jorgenson and Snyder also went 3-0 in the regional and improved to 21-8 on the season with a 6-3, 7-5 win over the No. 2 doubles team from Kingfisher.

At No. 1 singles, Byng’s Neil Jorgenson finished play on Monday with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Christian Heritage’s Parker Denton. Neil Jorgenson finished the tournament with a 3-1 record and upped his season record to 23-15.

The Pirates will compete in the Class 4A State Tournament on Friday and Saturday at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
