Fireball Classic returns to Wintersmith

Ada — The 47th Annual Fireball Classic Race will once again be one of the star attractions of Ada’s Fourth of July celebration at Wintersmith Park.

The event will kick off with a Color Guard presentation at 6:30 a.m. followed by the 10K run at 7 a.m., the 5K run at 7:05 a.m. and the 5K walk at 7:10 a.m. A free kids 8-and-under race will be held.

Entry fee is $25 per runner before June 30 and $30 after June 30. Fireball Classic T-shirts will not be guaranteed for race-day entrants.

Participants can register at the Aldridge Coffee Shop, 200 S. Broadway, in person Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration will be from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. on race day.

Online registration can be completed at, but will close at the end of the day on Wednesday.

Runners from all over the state and plenty from neighboring states (such at Texas, Kansas and Louisiana) flock to Ada each year to participate in Oklahoma’s oldest running 5K and 10K races.

According to longtime Fireball Classic event organizer Harral Harbin, there were 137 participants when the Ada Sunrise Rotary took over planning the event.

“We had 600 run last year and we’re hoping for 700 this year,” said Harbin.

The funds from the race are used to support the Ada Sunrise Rotary Back to School Basics Program. This program provides student backpacks and 100 $10 shoe card credits with the needed school supplies to start the school year. Last August, approximately 700 backpacks and 900 sets of school supplies were given out to Pontotoc County students.
