Ada girls tennis second in Guthrie

Guthrie —

The Ada High School girls tennis team finished second Wednesday in the 16-team Guthrie Invitational.

Ada’s Margo Martin captured the No. 1 singles crown by injury default, while teammate Haley Dean finished runner-up at No. 2 singles.

In doubles play, the Lady Cougars’ No. 1 doubles team of Natalie Keel and Meneé Thomsen took third place, while Ada’s No. 2 doubles combination of Tori Ross and Mikala Whelchel settled for sixth place.

The next action for the Lady Cougars will be Saturday in the Duncan Tournament. The Ada boys play today in the Duncan Tournament.

    As senior Walker Whitworth was bombing in the final five 3-point shots of his remarkable Ada High career, he was resetting the school’s triples record at 151. Across the way at the A-Town Barber Shop, barber Erick Gray did not even know he owned the record of 146, much less that someone was breaking it.
