Cougar tennis team runner-up in Guthrie

Guthrie —

The Ada High boys’ tennis team, on the strength of two third-place finishes by their two doubles teams, finished runner-up in the 16-team Guthrie Tournament on Monday.

Carl Albert won the tournament with a team score of 52, followed by Ada (49), Yukon (47) and Oklahoma Christian (43).

The Cougars’ No. 1 Doubles team of Josh Ellis and Andrew Leach and No. 2 combination of Charlie Hansen and Zack Whelchel each rolled to straight-set victories in the final matches to claim third.

Ada’s John Stout won his final match and claimed fifth place at No. 1 Singles while teammate Jamie Earle lost his third-place match at No. 2 Singles.

The next action for the Ada boys will be Friday at Duncan. The Ada girls play in the Guthrie Tournament today and the Duncan Tourney on Saturday.
