Ada senior outduels Jenks player in playoff, Cougars finish third

Ada —

The Ada High golf team finished about where they were expected to at the 2013 edition of theTournament of Champions held Monday at the Oak Hills Golf and Country Club — right behind Edmond monsters North and Sante Fe for third place in the double-tough 15-team field. The Huskies are the defending Class 6A state champs and won this year’s ToC title with an impressive 279 team score. The Wolves, who finished fourth at state in 2012, were next at 288. Ada and Plainview followed just two stroke behind Edmond Santa Fe with 290 scores.

There was high drama to decide who would take home the individual ToC championship.

Ada’s Wyatt Robson and Jenks star Brendon Jelley — an Oklahoma State University signee — both shot 69s to share the lead through 18 holes. Robson (who will play for Oklahoma City University) finally wrestled away the title with back-to-back remarkable second shots in an exciting two-hole playoff.

“I was really pleased with the way we played today. It is always a very tough field that we invite, and this year was no exception,” said Ada High head coach Robbie Powell.
