Durant — Dalton Wolf tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout while Gabe Simons, Colton Blankenship and Jake Boone collected a pair of hits each as the Ada Cougars rolled to a 9-0 victory over the host Durant Lions on Tuesday night.
Wolf (4-2) surrendered just two walks and struck out four.
“Dalton had a great day on the mound,” said Ada head coach Elliott Alberson. “Offensively, we had contributions up and down the lineup.”
Simons went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in and three runs scored. Blankenship was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, and Boone went 2-for-5 with one RBI as Ada compiled 11 hits.
The Cougars (ranked No. 12 in Class 4A) scored their first four runs in the second inning as Walker Whitworth and Reid Kinder drew back-to-back one-out walks. Blankenship, the designated hitter, then hit a two-run double. Then with two outs, Simons hit a run-scoring single and stole second before Wolf’s RBI single brought home the fourth run.
Ada added three more scores in the fourth. Simons walked and moved to second on a groundout for the second out. Scott Johnson then hit a run-scoring single, Micah Simmer drew a walk and Whitworth and Kinder followed with consecutive RBI singles for the sixth and seventh runs of the contest.
Boone laced a two-out run-scoring single in the fifth inning, and Simons had a two-out RBI single in the sixth to close out the scoring.
The Cougars (18-5) easily won despite stranding 11 runners on the bases. Durant — in the midst of a 10-game losing streak — left four on.
Ada will now compete in the 2014 Hill-Prescott Memorial Tournament in Byng. The Cougars will face Seminole at 5 p.m. today in a first-round matchup.
