Ada — The Ada High School boys tennis squad finished in a tie for seventh place out of 15 teams in its own tournament on Saturday.
Jenks claimed the team championship with a 56, followed by Edmond North (54), Heritage Hall (51), Tulsa Union (47), Edmond Memorial (45), Byng (34), Ada (27) and Enid (27).
The Cougars’ best finish came at No. 2 singles as Charlie Hansen knocked off Byng’s Dylan West by a hard-fought 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 decision.
Ada’s Zack Whelchel took seventh at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Edmond Memorial’s Blake Cherry.
At No. 2 doubles, the Cougar combination of Hunter Fraizer and Memo Marin were 7-5, 7-5 winners over Broken Arrow’s Arnold and Howard.
Ada’s Daniel Carpenter and Chad Whittington were on the short end of a 7-5, 6-3 score with Shawnee’s Boland and Fisher in the 13th-place match.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, April 16, in the Guthrie Tournament at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
