Monday, Aug. 19

Rock Creek 6, Tupelo 5

TUPELO 100 000 4 —  5    6  2

R. CREEK 013 020 x —  6   10  1

Tyler Daffern, Caleb Watson (6) and Corby Ake; Cook, Thompson (7) and Hammond. WP – Cook. LP – Daffern (0-2). HR – Watson (T). 2B – Ake (T); Cook (RC). HL – Watson 2-4, 4 RBIs; Corey McCollum 2-for-3 (T).

NOTEWORTHY: A two-out grand slam by Tupelo’s Caleb Watson in the top of the seventh was too little, too late as the Tigers dropped a 6-5 decision to host Rock Creek. Watson went 2-for-4 in the game with the four runs batted in and teammate Corey McCollum was 2-for-3 as Tupelo finished with six hits.

COACH’S QUOTE: “We didn’t play well. We gave them a lot of extra bases via wild pitches, passed balls and two throwing errors which led to six runs. We battled in the seventh, but it was too late,” — Tupelo head coach Clay Weller.

Up next: Tupelo vs. Colbert today, 4:30 p.m. at Tupelo Tournament.
