Visiting Dale shuts out Latta Panthers

Latta —

Things did not go well for Latta right from the beginning Monday night at Ed Collins Field.

The Panthers gave up four runs in the top of the first and issued 12 free passes (walks and hit batters combined) for the game against old rival Dale as the Pirates rolled to the 8-0 victory.

Dale leadoff hitter Tanner Nelson was walked to start the game, and three-hole hitter Chase Byndas also reached on the base on balls. Clean-up hitter Hunter Pinkston then ripped a three-run homer over the left field wall to clear the bases. Jace Wilkins was walked, stole second and scored off a single by Xavier Lanham to put Dale on top early, 4-0.

Dale tacked on a single run in the second to push the lead to 5-0.

Latta threatened for the first time in the bottom of the fourth. Brady Johnson walked, and Kade Hayes was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second with one out. Parker Henderson hit a hard grounder and was narrowly thrown out at first to advance the runners. Ty Hoppe was then hit by a pitch to load the bases, but Latta was unable to push home a run.

Dale added two more runs during the fifth as Byndas was walked and Pinkston was hit by a pitch. Byndas scored on a passed ball, and an RBI double by Gage Ross scored Pinkston.

In the bottom of the sixth, Latta got its only hit of the game. Hayes ripped a hard shot up the middle for a single. He then stole second, and Henderson was walked to again put two runners on base for the Panthers. Still, Latta was unable to get on the scoreboard.

Dale put one more run on the board in the top of the seventh. Pinkston doubled and later scored to account for the final 8-0 score.
