Ada starting tailback likely out for season with knee injury

Ada —

Ironically, Lott’s absense from the tailback slot made way for Larry. It was ‘Hats off to Larry’ on a 50-yard TD burst early in the scrimmage.

It was an all-White offense going against an all-Maroon clad defense, except for a few exceptions, notably 6-7 starting cornerback Cory Kilby slipping into a White jersey for some time at receiver and at quarterback after starter Tryce Prince and sophomore Dillon Briggs had their snaps. Newcomer Gabriel Simmons, a 5-11, 178 sophomore, also saw some time under center late in the scrimmage.

Prince & Co. operated behind two solid offensive lines.

O-line coach Nathan Elliott opened with returning starters Eli Flinn and Cam Large at center and left guard, respectively, right guard Marwin Dickerson, and tackles Dalton Woodward and Thomas Jim at tackles. Rounding out the ‘hands in the dirt’ crew was Garrett Beam at tight end and also at fullback.

Alternating with Larry in the backfield were Jake Martinez, Scott Johnson, Austin Feezel, Clayton Henry, Kane Moore and Colton Cosby to name a few. The receivers were Bryson Albert, Kilby, Trevin Hopkins, Levi Grimes, Ruslan Hinson, Dylan Haye, Montrell Black and others.

The alternate line — Gage Langley, Will Speed, Spencer Childers, Jake Bailey and Landon Coberly — ground out a long drive that ended with a score from the four by Briggs.

The Maroon defenders more or less stole the show, however, turning back series after series by the White offenders.

The solid D-line with ends Jacob Reed and Micah Simmer and Halen Ogles at noseguard backed by Riley Alexander made for a stiff front.

At drop end was Josh Horne with linebackers Kobe Bellard, Quinton Gregory and Beam subbed by Tristan Doffin, with Kilby, Larry, Johnson and Osahwv Frazier in the backfield.

Duncan next up

The Cougars returned to normal seventh hour practices Tuesday in preparation for Jim Holloway’s Duncan Demons coming to town Friday. The scrimmage will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the junior highs followed by the high schools at approximately 6:30 p.m.
