Ada QB Tryce Prince ready for show to start

Ada —      There’s probably not a player on the roster chomping at the bit in anticipating to kick off the 2013 football season more than Ada quarterback Tryce Prince.

The athletic junior has been completely cleared to play for weeks now after a full recovery from a messy knee injury suffered early during preseason basketball last year. And while he says he feels great, he will feel better once he plays — and takes his first big hit — in a real game.

“I’m ready for it to get here,” Prince said at Ada’s annual Media Day turned parent circus Saturday morning at the Craig McBroom Football Complex.

Prince got his first semi-test of game speed action during Saturday night’s Maroon-White scrimmage, which was completed well after The Ada News' deadline for today’s edition. Prince will get a bigger, better test in a few series during a scrimmage against Duncan Friday night at Ada High. The varsity portion of the scrimmage will get started at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Then, on Thursday, Aug. 29, Ada will travel to Plainview for its second preseason scrimmage, which will begin around 7 p.m. following some junior high action.

But the real test comes Friday, Sept. 6 — it’s listed as "BEAT ARDMORE!!!!!!" on Ada’s preseason football schedule — when the rival Tigers visit Norris Field. You can bet Prince will have a bull's-eye on his back when Ardmore comes to town.

Tryce’s father, Calvin Prince, is also anxious to see what’s in store for the 2013 football Cougars. And, admittedly, he's a bit nervous. Tryce recovered super quick, but now all signs point to him being as fit as a fiddle.

“I can’t wait for the season to get started for so many reasons and on so many levels,” the elder Prince said.

Tryce said preseason workouts have gone well, and he’s liked what he’s seen from his boys.

“Our coaches are having a hard time getting guys on the field because we have so many that can play,” he said. “That’s a good problem to have.”

COUGAR NOTES: Ada head coach Matt Weber said right at 60 players were dressed out for the team’s Media Day. ... For some reason, 16 players got together for a senior group shot, and only 15 seniors are listed on my latest roster. ... At 6-7, Ada receiver, quarterback and defensive back Cory Kilby towered over nearly every one of his teammates. Prince has to look forward to throwing him a jump ball or two ... Senior running back Chase Lott was seen limping around. He's expected to learn more about the injury during a Monday doctor's visit.
